What Is Involved In A Pre Natal DNA Test?

You may desire to perform a paternity test prior to a child's birth, and if so, our dna testing lab can perform a prenatal DNA paternity test from DNA samples taken during the first and second trimesters of pregnancy. DNA Samples must be collected by your doctor (an OB/GYN) in an amniocentesis or a CVS procedure. In an amniocentesis procedure, amniotic fluid from around the fetus is collected. In the CVS procedure, chorionic villi from the placenta are collected. The CVS procedure can be used for early detection 10-12 weeks into pregnancy. Process For Prenatal DNA Testing

Samples for prenatal DNA testing can be performed if the mother undergoes:

• Chorionic villus sampling (taking a small piece of the placenta)
• Amniocentesis (collection of fluid that bathes the baby)

The most important part of the prenatal DNA Test is choosing a doctor who able to perform the medical proceedaure needed to gather the DNA sample. We do NOT recommend the performance of amniocentesis or chorionic villus sampling solely for parentage determination because these procedures are invasive and pose a slight risk to the mother and the fetus. The DNA Collection Process Is Very Easy:

While your unborn child's DNA is collected via the methods decribed above, the alleged father's DNA samples are collected by simply swabbing the inside of the cheeks with a special swab (like a large Q-Tip). This is easy, quick, and painless. The Home DNA Test Kit comes complete with easy to follow illustrated instructions, collection apparatuses for each person, and a consent form to be filled out with information about each family member providing a sample. The cheek swab test takes about 10-15 minutes for 2 people, with an additional 15-20 minutes for the swabs to dry. We also have a DNA collection kit for blood sampling method “pin prick”. If you have a special case, such as involving a deceased relative, we can also use whole blood and/or other tissue samples. When Should You Purchase A Legal Pre-Natal DNA Test?

If the reason for your pre-natal DNA test is solely for curiosity, then our home non-legal pre-natal test is right for you.  If you think however, that the results may be required in a court of law, or that you may need the results to enforce child support or visitation, then you may want to consider getting a legal pre-natal DNA test instead for a small additional cost.
